She had bought herself a Darice mini crafting iron because of its conveniently diminutive size and because of its low wattage. However, the lack of steam and its limitations of size and temperature left something to be desired. When I saw the Steamfast on Amazon and read the reviews, I figured this iron might be exactly what Mrs. Spudman needed. Happily this little wonder has exceeed all expectations. The iron heats up quickly and packs a powerful punch of steam. Just be aware that for large jobs lots of refills may be necessary. For quilters this little iron is absolutely perfect. It'll eliminate those wrinkles in small fabric pieces, heats up quickly, and save energy with its low 400 watts of power. The Steamfast is also perfect for touchups of single garments or quick freshening of collars, cuffs, or shirt tails. We haven't traveled with SteamFast yet,but based on our experience with it, think it will be a great appliance to take on vacation. But, the the designed purposes of this iron are to cut down on size and iron. The SteamFast does both well. I don't think an iron with steam could be much smaller. I also like the fact that mine came with a water measuring cup and storage bag that fit into my backpack. It irons well and provides a decent amount of steam. Due to the size, it does not hold much water. Ironing will take a few minutes longer than with a full-size iron. I had to refill with water after about 3 to 4 shirts. I will add that this iron does not get as hot as a regular iron does, so if you need the highest temperature settings from your home iron, then this may not meet your expectations. I use it for craft and quilt piecing and it does the job. Probably will never travel with it so can't say how it works as a travel iron.
